A UK company, Oxitec has altered two genes in the Aedes aegypt mosquito which is lead to Dengue fever. As a result, when modified males breed with wild females, the offspring inherit a lethal gene and after all, they die in the larval stage.
In doing that, many scientists say they are more effective and benign way of controlling mosquito- borne illnesses than spraying pesticides.
Therefore, it is successfully reducing populations of the insect by up to 90 percent in field trials in the Cayman Islands, Brazil, Malaysia, and Panama.
In Brazil, this was approved the use of the GM mosquitoes last year.
We can say that GM animals help our disease!!
